A devil in the details: Imagining the W hotel

What many newcomers might not immediately appreciate about the world of architectural visualization is exactly how far it has come in recent decades, or the role that ZUM3D has played in making that transformation happen. When we first partnered up with Starwood Hotels to bring a digital rendering of their W Hotel to life, Google Earth was still a dream and photo-drone technology was just getting off the ground. This made tackling large projects like The W even more of a challenge, but one that we were more than ready for.

With more than 1,000 properties in 100 different countries, Starwood has left a definitive mark on millions of travelers’ experience for years. So it goes without saying that it was absolutely necessary to deliver on both quality and quantity. To get the job done without many of the technologies we have at our fingertips today, we hired teams of photographers to capture every single block surrounding the strip and compiled this heap of pictures into a full-fledged 3D model. While all this footwork might seem a bit overboard to some, it was crucial for us to get the level of detail and precision that our client expected. This let us offer hyper-realistic landscapes from the point of view of the penthouse suite, capturing all of the lights and luxury that the city is known for.

However, as is the case with so many large-scale projects like this, the W Hotel was fated to remain in the digital world, as the economic downturn forced the project to come to a halt. But while you will never be able to set foot in what would have been one of Vegas’ most impressive hotels, you can still explore all the interiors, exteriors, pool, cabana, and view of the surrounding city through our impressive digital renderings.

Today, we are still leading the pack when it comes to technological innovation and creative problem solving. The difference is, we now have all kinds of new toys that we can put to use, whose results you can see for yourself in our online project portfolio. Always ahead of our time, our clients can expect us to be putting every tool to use, in order to put out the highest quality work possible.
